How To Practice Guitar Effectively On A Daily Basis
In this lesson, we are going to look at how to practice guitar effectively daily. I say daily basis because that is what it takes to get good at the instrument.
So many times people think they can practice long periods every other day and that is as effective as practicing a little each day. Nothing could be further from the truth.
To get good at playing the guitar, it must be played daily. Short intervals daily are far better than long ones periodically.
The reason for this is because the skills required to play it don’t come overnight. Skills such as hand-to-hand coordination, motor skills, focus, and concentration. All these and more contribute to being a good if not great guitar player.
Goal Setting
Setting a goal as to what you hope to accomplish with the guitar is the first step to learning it. You must have a vision or target for the result.
It is this vision that will keep you motivated during tough times. It is this vision that will excite you to practice daily, and it is this goal that will get you there effectively.
Without a target to shoot for, you’re progress will be slow, and uneventful, and you might even quit before you get there.
So make sure you think about why you want to learn, and what you hope to accomplish by doing so.
Develop A Plan
Once you set your goal or vision, you need to develop a plan or strategy to get there. Of course, you’re going to get a guitar, but what kind?
Are you going to learn on your own or take lessons of some sort? If you choose lessons, will they be in-person or online?
If you go the DIY route, what will be best? Learning from books, learning from videos on YouTube, or taking an online course?
Developing a plan or strategy to get there is very crucial in the learning process. Remember, learning is a journey, and a plan or strategy to get there will help you get there more efficiently.
Create Positive Habits
Habits are everything when it comes to accomplishing anything. So the better habits you develop, the better of a guitar player you are going to become.
You develop habits such as:
-
Daily practice
-
Same place same time
-
Focus and attention to detail
-
Always move forward
These are just a few that can make a difference in your playing. By creating positive habits, you will not only get to where you are going more effectively, but you will also become an inspiration for others to follow.
Have a positive mental attitude, and develop positive practice habits and there will be no stopping you.
Analyze Your Progress
This is a va crucialep in your goal achievement. You always want to be looking at your progress and analyzing where you’re at.
Looking at what you have learned and what still needs to be learned. As I mentioned before, learning the guitar is a journey to your chosen destination. The goal you have set for yourself.
And like any other journey, you want to be looking at your map and seeing how far you’ve come, and how far you still need to go.
This will make sure to keep you on track and make sure that you have learned what is necessary to get you to where you need to go.
Stay Focused On Your Objective
As I mentioned in the first part of the lesson, you want to have a goal. A target. An objective that you are attempting to obtain. This is highly important.
So many people get a guitar and start learning without this and before you know it they quit. The guitar ends up in the closet collecting dust.
But if you have a primary objective and continue to strive toward it daily, you will eventually get there. Not to say there will be some bumps along the way, but that’s to be expected.
Staying focused daily is not an easy task. It’s challenging. But then again, if it was easy, everyone would do it. That’s what’s great about learning the guitar, it’s special.
Special in the fact that not everyone can do it. So if you can learn the instrument, you will be able to join an elite club.
But to do so, you must stay focused on your objective. Always be thinking about why you are learning. See yourself successfully playing it and having fun doing so. Feel the joy that you will bring to yourself and possibly others.
